HUTCHINSON, KS – The ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç International SciEd Center and Space Museum, in partnership with Ad Astra Academies and USD 313, is proud to announce the launch of the Ad Astra STEAM Academy, a bold new opportunity for Kansas high school students to immerse them in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) through real-world experiences.
Designed for students in grades 9 through 12, the Ad Astra STEAM Academy offers a four year elective course plan that combines full-time virtual instruction with weekly, in-person labs at the ºÚÁÏ´óʼÇ. Through hands-on experiences, project-based learning, and exposure to real world aerospace challenges, students will develop the critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills essential for future success in STEAM fields.
Key program features include:
- Immersive labs, engineering simulations, and design challenges at the ºÚÁÏ´óʼÇ
- Personalized online coursework through Ad Astra’s virtual platform
- Dual-credit college opportunities
- Senior capstone projects presented at a culminating symposium
- Access to ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç exhibits, restoration spaces, and expert educators
Students interested in the STEAM Academy must enroll with Ad Astra Virtual Academy and meet the STEAM Academy program requirements. They will receive one full elective credit per year and may continue the program annually through STEAM Academy 1, 2, 3, and 4 — each building on critical thinking, innovation, and career readiness. There are no prerequisites to enroll. The hybrid model allows students to maintain full-time virtual enrollment through Ad Astra Academies while also benefiting from hands-on learning at the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç and dual-credit opportunities through K-State Salina, Hutchinson Community College, and WSU Tech.
Applications are now open. Space is limited, and interested students are encouraged to apply early.
